1960s
The Greenville Amateur Radio Club was founded by a group of local radio enthusiasts. The club's first meetings were held in members' homes and local community centers.
1970s
The club established its first repeater system, providing reliable communication for amateur radio operators in the Greenville area. This marked the beginning of our commitment to public service.
1980s
K5GVL became an official ARRL affiliated club, strengthening our ties with the national amateur radio community. We began participating in Field Day events and emergency communications exercises.
1990s
The club expanded its repeater network and established a permanent club station. We began offering regular license classes and VE testing sessions to help grow the amateur radio community.
2000s
K5GVL became a key player in local emergency communications, working closely with Hunt County Emergency Management. We established our SKYWARN® program and began regular weather spotting activities.
2010s
The club modernized its equipment and expanded its digital capabilities. We introduced DMR and D-STAR systems, while maintaining our analog repeater network. Our membership grew significantly during this period.
2020s
K5GVL continues to evolve, embracing new technologies while maintaining our core values of public service and community involvement. We've expanded our educational programs and strengthened our emergency communications capabilities.
